Infratel to go green

14 Jun 2012

India towerco Bharti Infratel is expected to invite bids to supply the company with solar energy solutions, reports the Economic Times citing executives aware of the development. Infratel is looking to harness the renewable energy source to cut diesel costs at around 8,000 sites. Chinese vendors ZTE and Huawei and Sweden’s Flexenclosure are understood to be interested in bidding for the contract. Infratel’s plans fall in line with the aims of the government’s recently approved National Telecom Policy (NTP) 2012, which looks to promote the use of energy efficient equipment and renewable energy sources thereby reducing the carbon footprint in the telecom sector.
