Arbitrator dismisses CAT Telecom's claim against DTAC

8 Jun 2012

A mutually appointed arbitrator has dismissed state-owned CAT Telecom’s THB23.16 billion (USD735 million) claim against rival operator Digital Total Access Communication (DTAC), according to a statement submitted by the latter to the Stock Exchange of Thailand. DTAC says it deducted that sum of money from its revenue-sharing payment to CAT during the period 2003 to 2007 so that it could use it pay an excise tax. Since operators were legally allowed to do this at the time, the arbitrator dismissed CAT’s claim to the money. In 2007 the controversial excise tax was reduced to zero.
