Ported mobile numbers reach 38,000

7 Jun 2012

A total of 37,679 mobile numbers were ported from one service provider to another in the two months since the service was implemented in Argentina at the end of March, according to BNamericas, which cites figures from telecoms regulator Comision Nacional de Comunicaciones as reported by local press. The introduction of mobile number portability is expected to further intensify competition between the country’s four mobile network operators – America Movil-owned market leader Claro Argentina, Telecom Personal (the mobile arm of fixed line operator Telecom Argentina), Telefonica Comunicaciones Personales Argentina (Movistar) of Spain, and NII Holding’s Nextel – in a market that boasts a wireless penetration rate of around 135%.
