Swisscom set to introduce LTE to twelve cities by end-2012

Swisscom, Switzerland’s fixed line incumbent and largest cellco by subscribers is aiming to roll out 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks to twelve towns and cities by the end of 2012, with a nationwide deployment to begin in 2013. The telco began trialling the platform in December 2011 in tourist areas, with an average of 210 customers per week testing the network, which boasts maximum download speeds of 100Mbps. Swisscom plans to invest CHF1.5 billion (USD1.56 billion) on its LTE network over the next five years.
