Nepal’s Finance Ministry has put in place measures that it hopes will pave the way for state-owned PTO Nepal Telecom (NT) to bring in a strategic partner. The Himalayan News Service reports that the ministry is planning to form a six-member committee to create a bidding document and contract paper to introduce the strategic partner. ‘The ministry is trying to prepare all the documents by the end of June,’ a source within the ministry is quoted as saying. The unnamed official added that the government hopes to complete the tender documents before the end of NT’s current financial year to smooth the entry of the new partner in time for the carrier’s next one. Despite this, sceptics point out that this is not the first time the government has made such a commitment, with previous attempts failing to yield the desired results.
