Alca-Lu to transform Chunghwa’s broadband network

6 Jun 2012

French-US vendor Alcatel-Lucent has announced that it has been selected to transform the network of Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) with a view to ‘boosting its speed, performance and efficiency in serving residential, business and mobile broadband customers’. With CHT seeking to cater for the increasing demand for high speed broadband access, IPTV, mobile video and online gaming, it will deploy Alca-Lu’s Multi-Service Edge Router (MSER) equipment, which it is claimed will support all of the telco’s fixed and mobile broadband network to simplify network structure, while reducing the cost of operations and helping to ensure reliability and service quality. Under the terms of the deal, Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its IP/MPLS solution, based on its 7750 Service Router and 7705 Service Aggregation Router, with the vendor also providing a set of comprehensive professional services including project management, network design, installation and commissioning, software integration and operations. Commenting on the development, CHT noted: ‘Alcatel-Lucent’s service routers offer an ideal way for us to prepare our network for the rapid growth in demand we are seeing for high-bandwidth services like video, both at home and on the move.’
