ONE narrows EBIT losses in 1Q12

Macedonian fixed and mobile operator ONE (including and Cosmofon) has reported negative earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of EUR2.308 million (USD2.8 million) for the first three months of this year, an improvement on negative EBIT of EUR5.7 million in the same period a year ago. ONE, which is owned by Slovenia’s Telekom Slovenije, reported first-quarter revenues of EUR16.374 million for the period under review, down from EUR16.660 million in 1Q11, although earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose 69% year-on-year to EUR1.552 million from EUR919 million previously. In a financial report filed with the Ljubljana Stock Exchange, the parent company also noted that net operating profit at its Macedonian operations improved to a loss of EUR2.686 million, from a loss of EUR8.336 million a year ago. CAPEX for the quarter was EUR682,000, down from EUR1.155 million.

Operationally speaking, ONE closed out 31 March 2012 with a total of 37,875 retail broadband connections, up from 36,031 at the start of the year and 36,620 at 31 March 2011. Meanwhile, the group’s mobile arm continued to lose traction in the Macedonian market, shedding a net 2,618 subscribers in January-March, for a total of 427,229 users – down from 465,933 at end-March 2011.
