Fastweb shutting IPTV by November

1 Jun 2012

Italian telco Fastweb, a subsidiary of Swisscom, is planning to shut its IPTV service by November this year, because of disappointing subscriber take-up. A report by IPTV News, quoting local newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, states that Fastweb’s IPTV customers have received letters advising them of the closure. Fastweb launched IPTV in 2001, and signed up around 240,000 subscribers by the end of September 2011, although this was down from a peak of 400,000 at end-2007. The company signed an agreement with Sky Italia early last year to bundle satellite TV with Fastweb’s broadband connections.
