TD expands 4G network to Koblenz

31 May 2012

Telekom Deutschland (TD), the domestic fixed and mobile division of German telecoms company Deutsche Telekom, has expanded its urban Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile broadband network to the city of Koblenz in Rhineland-Pfalz. TD’s urban 4G network supports theoretical download speeds of up to 100Mbps. After connecting around 1,000 rural areas to 800MHz LTE mobile broadband services in 2010, TD first brought LTE to the city in July 2011, when it launched a 4G network operating in the 1800MHz band in Cologne. Commercial services were made available in Frankfurt in February 2012, followed shortly by Bonn, Hamburg, Leipzig and Munich. By the end of the year, TD aims to have expanded its urban 4G network to around 100 towns and cities.
