Angolan cable television and broadband operator TV Cabo, a 50/50 joint venture of Angola Telecom and Portugal’s Visabeira Group, has launched a range of services based on a direct fibre access network aimed at businesses under the ‘+Fibra Negocios’ banner. The new fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) network offers speeds of up to 20Mbps (download) and 8Mbps (upload), which TV Cabo claims is the fastest in Angola, and compares to its HFC cable-based packages which offer speeds up to 10Mbps/1Mbps (download/upload), according to its website. +Fibra Negocios packages are also available with symmetrical down/upload options of 2Mbps, 4Mbps and 8Mbps, and all with unlimited data usage, reports O Pais Online. Previously, in July 2011 TV Cabo piloted a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) and GPON network in two neighbourhoods of Luanda, Morro Bento and Talatona, after investing USD4.5 million in the project. The company offers cable modem internet access in the Luanda area and, since September 2010, Benguela and Lobito.
TV Cabo’s Mozambique-based sister cableco in the Visabeira Group also announced the launch of direct fibre-optic access services last week under the ‘more fibre’ banner. TV Cabo Mozambique is also using the +Fibra brand on its website for the service which it launched in the capital, Maputo.
