Telefonica unifies Colombian operations

22 May 2012

Spain’s Telefonica has unified all of its Colombian operations under its preferred ‘Movistar’ brand. The company, which offers fixed line telephony and broadband as well as wireless services and pay-TV, had previously operated its fixed services as Telefonica Telecom. The move follows the merger of Telefonica Telecom, which is now 30% state-owned, with Telefonica’s mobile arm. As noted by TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, at the end of March 2012 Movistar claimed 14.287 million fixed line telephony subscribers, 627,900 broadband, 255,000 pay-TV customers, and 11.933 million wireless customers.
