Rising costs outweigh revenue growth, driving Telenor into loss

Telenor Pakistan has recorded revenues of NOK1.387 billion (USD238.6 million) for the first quarter of 2012, up from NOK1.179 billion seen in Q1 2011. Despite reporting a 44.5% increase in EBITDA year-on-year, operating income fell from a positive NOK88 million in Q1 2011, to a loss of NOK25 million in Q1 2012. CAPEX increased to NOK93 million, as the company focused investments on increasing network capacity. The cellco added 1.218 million net subscriptions in the three months ended 31 March 2012, bringing its total mobile customer base to 29.35 million.
