KPN Mobile launches LTE in Utrecht and The Hague

4 May 2012

KPN Mobile The Netherlands has announced plans to launch a 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) service for business users from 11 May. The announcement comes hard on the heels of rival operator Ziggo’s announcement yesterday that it has launched its own 4G network – again targeting businesses – using its spectrum in the 2600MHz band, in the cities of Breda, Zwolle and Oss. At launch, KPN Mobile’s fledgling LTE service is being offered in the regions Utrecht and The Hague. The 4G network has a maximum download speed of 50Mbps and an peak upload speed of 25Mbps. Although KPN is targeting business users in the first phase, it will soon begin a pilot trial using ‘power users’ to test a consumer-based offer, it said, with plans to extend and expand 4G trials throughout the remainder of this year.
