Operators protest TRAI recommendations

2 May 2012

Indian wireless operators are due to meet with the telecoms minister Kapil Sibal today to voice concerns regarding the recommendations put forward by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) covering the redistribution of 2G licences. According to the Economic Times, the heads of Telenor, Vodafone Group, Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular will meet with Sibal to protest against the proposed price hike for spectrum in the upcoming auction. Meanwhile Uninor has filed an application with the Supreme Court arguing that the recommendations put forward by the TRAI are not in line with the apex court’s order.
