Telecommunications Services of Trinidad & Tobago (TSTT) has handed a contract to Huawei Technologies of China for an upgrade to a 4G-ready mobile network, to be deployed by September this year. TSTT’s CEO Roberto Peon said the decision to upgrade to 4G followed TSTT’s examination of what was happening worldwide and the best technologies to enhance its network. ‘Our network is already a few years old. The twenty-first century is about speed. Not just speed of your phone. It is about speed of networks,’ he said in an interview, following the announcement of the partnership with Huawei. In addition, the telco announced it will also roll out mobile television and Wi-Fi hotspots later this year.
