Indonesia’s largest telecoms operator by subscribers and revenues, PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) says that group net income for the three months ended 31 March 2012 climbed 17.5% year-on-year to IDR3.32 trillion (USD362 million), its highest for six years, fuelled by strong growth at its mobile arm Telkomsel. Consolidated revenue for the first quarter of 2012 grew by almost 7% to IDR17.8 trillion on the back of mobile, data and internet services growth. Turnover from the group’s cellular business expanded by 6.5% y-o-y to IDR7.20 trillion (accounting for 40% of group sales), while revenue derived from data, internet and IT services climbed 12.2% to IDR6.12 trillion (contributing 34.4% to Telkom’s overall revenue). Telkomsel, which is 65%-owned by Telkom, booked net profit of IDR3.50 trillion in the three-month period under review, up 23% on an annualised basis. The mobile arm closed out March with a total of 109.88 million subscribers, up 10.6% on the corresponding year-earlier period, while BlackBerry users more than doubled to 3.35 million, it said. Meanwhile, revenue from fixed line services dropped 4.3% year-on-year to IDR2.81 trillion.
