CCK warns of counterfeit handset switch-off

24 Apr 2012

The Communications Commission of Kenya (CCK) has stated that it may order network operators to disable counterfeit mobile phones at any point from May onwards. According to the watchdog almost 10% of the country’s wireless subscribers are using counterfeit handsets with duplicated or reprogrammed IMEI numbers. A previous deadline of December 2011 for the switch-off was put back so as to allow users time to switch to genuine handsets.
