SIM card registration deadline extended

23 Apr 2012

A deadline for the registration of all mobile SIM cards in Belize has been extended for three months. The government announced last October that all cellular phone subscribers should register their accounts or else face disconnection, and that deadline passed on 12 April this year. The cut-off date has now been extended to Friday 13 July, local news source The Guardian reports. There are two mobile operators in Belize, the wireless arm of former monopoly full-service telco Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL), which operates GSM 850MHz/1900MHz services under the banner Digicell, and CDMA2000 network operator SpeedNet, which calls its mobile service ‘Smart’.
