ICASA unveils five-year plan

23 Apr 2012

South Africa’s telecoms regulator, the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), has unveiled its strategic plan for the next five years, reports technology news site The watchdog says its priorities for the period covering 2012-2013 include local loop unbundling (LLU), more choice for broadband access and fairer pricing, and the introduction of a wholesale network access product (bitstream) by November 2012. Meanwhile, the Department of Communications says it plans to give ICASA the green light in May 2012 to issue an invitation to apply for spectrum in the 800MHz and 2.6GHz bands, often used for 4G LTE services.
