Rebranded ministry a godsend

India’s Department of Information Technology (DIT), a subsection of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MIT) and whose remit includes matters relating to cyber laws and the promotion of standardisation, testing and quality in the IT sector, has been renamed the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) to better reflect the importance of the sector. The move was reportedly prompted by industry stakeholders and academia, who felt that the sector had been neglected by the government.
