Free Mobile roaming deal could generate EUR2bn for FT

The French incumbent operator France Telecom-Orange (FT-Orange) has revealed that its mobile roaming deal with wireless market newcomer Free Mobile could generate twice as much income as originally expected, Dow Jones Newswires reports. Chief executive Stephane Richard told French newspaper Liberation: ‘We had said the contract would bring EUR1 billion (USD1.3 billion). It could be double depending on Free’s capacity to develop its network.’ Low-cost operator Free Mobile, which is a division of fixed line and internet group Iliad, launched France’s fourth cellular network in January this year and has a national roaming agreement with Orange while it builds out its own infrastructure.
