Softbank contracts NSN for LTE rollout and HSPA+ expansion

16 Apr 2012

The Japanese cellular operator Softbank Mobile has awarded a contract to Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) to supply, deploy and integrate its 4G FDD-LTE (Frequency Division Duplex – Long Term Evolution) network. Under a separate contract, NSN will also expand Softbank’s HSPA+ 3.5G network to enable new services using the recently allocated 900MHz frequency band. NSN will deploy its Flexi Multiradio Base Station for both the FDD-LTE network and the HSPA+ network expansion. It will also provide optimised backhaul transport with its FlexiPacket Microwave platform. Softbank hopes to begin offering LTE-based services in the third quarter of this year.
