TeliaSonera exits Cambodia and lifts stake in Nepal

TeliaSonera has sold its stake in Cambodian cellco Smart Mobile and increased its ownership of Nepal’s largest mobile operator, Spice Nepal (Ncell). The Swedish giant announced that it had agreed the sale of its 18.6% holding in Smart Mobile to a group of local partners, while agreeing with the same group to increase its stake in Ncell from 60.4% to 73%. ‘Ncell has become the number one mobile operator in Nepal, and today’s agreement gives us the possibility to further increase our ownership in this highly successful operation when local regulations allow for increased foreign ownership in Nepal,’ the company said in a statement. No financial details were disclosed.
