According to the ITAR-TASS news agency, Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has approved Rostelecom’s request pertaining to the potential purchase of RETN Capital, owner of one of the world’s largest backbone networks. RETN (also known as Real Time Network) was founded in 2002 and currently claims to serve more than 200 Russian and international carriers and around 700 corporate customers. RETN has network nodes located in Moscow, Yaroslavl, Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod, St Petersburg, as well as London, New York, Stockholm, Helsinki, Washington DC, Amsterdam and Frankfurt. Network capacity reportedly reaches 1Tbps on the main routes. No purchase price for the deal has been reported.
