The Dominican Republic cable operator Aster Comunicaciones has been sold via auction to local utility group Consorcio Energetico Punta Cana-Macao (CEPM) for USD27 million. Domestic telcos Codetel, Tricom and Wind Telecom also participated in the auction process, NexTV LatAm reports. Aster had been under the control of administrators at the Dominican Republic’s Central Bank since 2009 following the collapse of the cableco’s owner Banco Intercontinental (Baninter). Aster operates in 13 cities and has around 40,000 subscribers.
