30 Mar 2012

Deutsche Telekom, which provides fixed and mobile services under the banner Telekom Deutschland, has announced it has begun the deployment of a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network for housing association Deutsche Annington Immobilien in the city of Bochum. Under the first phase of the project, around 42,000 apartments in North Rhine-Westphalia will be connected to the high speed network, which supports maximum data transmission rates of 200Mbps, by 2013. In total, around 171,000 apartments serviced by Deutsche Annington Immobilien in 600 locations across Germany will gain access to the fibre-optic network. Since early 2011 Deutsche Telekom has connected around 160,000 households in twelve cities to FTTH infrastructure, with work to continue in a further nine cities during 2012.
