Jazztel outlines Canary Islands xDSL coverage expansion

28 Mar 2012

Alternative Spanish telco Jazz Telecom (Jazztel) has announced that it is to deploy 27 new xDSL exchanges in the Canary Islands, with the new infrastructure bringing its services to more than 300,000 homes. The operator has noted that the equipment it is rolling out will utilise both ADSL2+ and VDSL2 technologies, allowing it to offer downlink speeds of up to 30Mbps and upload speeds of up to 3.5Mbps. Residents of central Gran Canaria, it has said, are already able to connect to its network, while connections in Tenerife are expected to be made available in the coming weeks. On the back of the network coverage expansion, Jazztel now claims to be the largest alternative operator with direct coverage on the islands.
