Airtel and Idea accused of wrongly refusing port requests

22 Mar 2012

Executives from Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular have joined Loop Mobile bosses called to appear before a Delhi Court to answer allegations of violating mobile number portability (MNP) regulations. As previously reported by CommsUpdate, Loop Mobile was found by the Telecoms Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to have used ‘act of god’ as a reason for rejecting requests for porting customers’ numbers to other providers; the TRAI pointed out that ‘act of god’ was not an acceptable reason for refusing transfer applications. The Economic Times reports that Bharti and Idea have also been accused of wrongly refusing porting requests, though details of the pair’s transgressions were not released.
