UK-based wireless operator LIME has announced a limited rollout of ‘4G’ services in Jamaica. The cellco has launched HSPA+ services to selected areas, dubbed ‘4G Experience Zones’ in key business and residential districts. LIME has stolen a march on its larger rival Digicel Jamaica, which in February announced plans to deploy a nationwide HSPA+ network as part of its post-Claro merger strategy. Digicel will integrate and upgrade parts of Claro’s network with Digicel’s existing infrastructure. The larger cellco expects to commercially launch the upgraded network in Q2 2012. As part of its rollout and marketing plans, LIME has invited customers to visit LIME’s retail outlets to experience the higher speeds on compatible devices.
