Ceragon Networks has announced the signing of a USD6 million contract with Nigerian mobile operator Globacom for the deployment of its high-capacity wireless backhaul solutions and professional services. Under the agreement, Ceragon will manage the end-to-end deployment of its FibeAir IP-10 and Evolution IP Long-Haul systems throughout Nigeria, expanding upon the original network Ceragon developed for Globacom in 2010. As part of the deployment, Ceragon will provide backhaul for Glo’s 2G/3G infrastructure network in Lagos. The network modernisation will expand the traffic capacity of Globacom’s 3G network, while providing legacy 2G TDM support, enabling subscribers that have had limited or no mobile access to connect to the expanded network. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database states that Globacom is Nigeria’s second largest mobile operator by subscribers, with a total wireless customer base of 19.886 million at the end of 2011, corresponding to a market share of 20.9%.
