A spokesperson for India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has said that the regulator expects to be in a position to begin auctioning 2G spectrum by 20 December this year, local news source Zeebiz reports. The official said that to meet that deadline, the watchdog would need to receive and approve recommendations from sister organisation the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) by the end of May, and begin shortlisting an auctioneer by the end of June. The schedule calls for invitation notices to be finalised and issued by the third week of October. The tender itself is expected to take 40 days, with another month to assign spectrum and collect fees. If all deadlines are met, the DoT plans to have completed the spectrum allocation by 8 March 2013.
