Sistema expands 3G footprint

Russian-backed telco Sistema Shyam TeleServices, which operates under the MTS India brand, has expanded its wireless internet service to eight more towns in the Maharashtra and Goa circle. According to Mobile Indian, the 3G service ‘MBlaze’ has been rolled out to Khopoli, Lonavala, Baramati, Beed, Mahad, Ratnagiri, Satara and Karad. Sistema’s 3G offering provides maximum theoretical download speeds of up to 3.1Mbps and, as noted by TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, at end-December 2011 the company had an estimated 700,000 3G subscribers.
