France Telecom in line for Free payday

France Telecom-Orange says it may receive more than the expected EUR1 billion (USD1.32 billion) roaming revenues from new French mobile operator Free Mobile, according to a report from Les Echos, which cites FT-Orange chief executive Stephane Richard. Free Mobile, which is part of the Iliad group, launched its low-cost wireless operation in mid-January and has proven an immediate hit, with FT-Orange saying it lost 200,000 net users in the weeks after Free’s launch, while also claiming that its network has been put under strain from the amount of roaming traffic being generated by the new operator. FT-Orange has not commented on the Les Echos report.
