TeliaSonera acquires open network provider Svenska Stadsnat

2 Mar 2012

TeliaSonera Sweden has acquired all shares in Svenska Stadsnat, a company providing fibre capacity to municipalities, companies and households. The price for the acquisition was not disclosed. Svenska Stadsnat posted net 2011 sales of SEK53 million (USD8.1 million). It has operations in seven municipalities: Laholm, Svalov, Orkelljunga, Karlshamn, Gislaved, Gnosjo and Molndal, and has 14 employees in Gislaved, Molndal and Landskrona.

‘The possibility to deliver high capacity to many Swedes in an open fibre network is the core of the development of the fibre market, an ambition in common for TeliaSonera and Svenska Stadsnat. With TeliaSonera as a new owner, our business will get the financial resources that a future rollout requires. As TeliaSonera develops its open model even further, our network and employees will get into the right environment’, said Borje Andersson, chairman of Svenska Stadsnat.

TeliaSonera’s wholly-owned wholesale division Skanova will take operational control in the business and consolidate Svenska Stadsnat into its reporting.
