Numericable to launch MVNO services over Mobistar’s network

Belgian cableco Numericable looks set to enter the country’s mobile sector having reportedly struck a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) agreement with the market’s smallest operator by subscribers, Mobistar. According to Broadband TV News, initially the mobile voice service is expected to only be made available as part of a quad-play bundle for Numericable’s 140,000 subscribers. Commenting on the decision to move into the wireless market, Numericable CEO Pascal Dormal was cited as saying to Belgian press: ‘The mobile offering is not as important as the other services, but we notice that there is demand … The time is right for this step.’ Numericable, which was last year acquired by a consortium of Deficom and private equity investment group Apaz, currently serves ten municipalities, with those being: Brussels, Laeken, Anderlecht, Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Neder-over-Heembeek, Haren, Watermael-Boitsfort, Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, Drogenbos and Wemmel.
