US broadband provider CenturyLink has released its results for the fourth quarter and year ended 31 December 2011. In its reported highlights, the telco said that it improved year-over-year top-line revenue decline to 3.2% in the fourth quarter, compared to an estimated (pro forma) decline of 3.8% in 4Q 2010. CenturyLink generated operating revenues of USD4.653 billion on a consolidated basis in 4Q11, compared to pro forma operating revenues of USD4.807 billion in the same quarter of 2010. It incurred operating expenses of USD4.059 billion in 4Q11, up by 1% from pro forma USD4.016 billion in 4Q10, primarily driven by higher costs associated with growth initiatives. The operator also reported that it reduced access line net losses by more than 30% in October-December 2011 compared to pro forma 4Q10, and by more than 14% quarter-on-quarter. It also grew its high speed internet customer base to 5.55 million subscribers at the end of 2011, representing 4.5% annual growth over pro forma year-end 2010.
