RTR limits monthly mobile data charges

14 Feb 2012

Austria’s Regulatory Authority for Telecoms & Broadcasting (RTR) has revealed that from 1 May 2012 operators will be required to cap the monthly cost for mobile data services at EUR60 (USD79). The watchdog said that the move comes in response to an increasing number of cases where consumers have found themselves presented with very high charges for such services, with the RTR claiming that the average disputed amount in cases of ‘bill shock’ was EUR650. The new cap will apply to both new and existing contracts when it comes into force.
