BTL signs 4G deal with Ericsson

Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL) has agreed a 4G infrastructure contract with Swedish vendor Ericsson. The government-owned telco has announced that its 850MHz/1900MHz Digicell GSM network will be upgraded ‘within the coming months’, and that users can expect data speeds up to ten times faster than those currently available. Although the technology behind the network has not been disclosed, Long Term Evolution (LTE) is the most common 4G upgrade path for GSM networks.
