Hong Kong’s Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA) has announced that on 1 April 2012 the Communications Authority Ordinance will come into effect, establishing a combined telecoms and broadcasting regulator. The Office of the Communications Authority will be formed by merging OFTA and the Broadcasting Division of the Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority.

OFTA also noted that it is targeting the auction of radio spectrum in the 2.5GHz/2.6GHz bands for the provision of 4G mobile telecoms services in the first quarter of 2013.
