Saudi regulator to proceed with pre-paid registration scheme

8 Feb 2012

The head of Saudi Arabia’s Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) says the government plans to push ahead with a scheme to register all pre-paid mobile users. The regulator says that all pre-paid card registrations must be accompanied by the user’s ID card number, ending anonymous use of pre-paid phones for criminal activities. The country’s telcos are already working with the CITC on the implementation of the system, although it is not clear when the scheme will be launched to end users.
