German telecoms company freenet, which provides services under the mobilcom-debitel brand, has announced that it has begun selling cable broadband and television services in cooperation with cableco Unitymedia. The new offering is available from over 150 mobilcom-debitel shops in Unitymedia’s distribution territory in the federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse. The launch follows a successful trial phase introduced last September in 15 mobilcom-debitel shops. ‘We are delighted to have found a partner in Unitymedia who has recognised the positive outlook for the broadband cable market and is aligning its business model with this forward-looking form of connectivity,’ commented Hubert Kluske, managing director of mobilcom-debitel Shop, adding: ‘We are also reviewing options for potential collaborations with other cable operators. The aim in the medium term is to be able to offer our customers all over Germany broadband connectivity via cable TV.’
