Virgin to launch in Argentine mobile market

2 Feb 2012

Virgin Mobile plans to launch mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) services in Argentina this year, possibly in September, local newspaper El Cronista reports. The British company is currently awaiting authorisation from the Argentine communications ministry, Secretaria de Comunicaciones (SeCom), to begin providing services. It is also currently looking to sign an MVNO agreement which would allow it to operate over the infrastructure of one the country’s three established mobile network operators – Telefonica’s Movistar, Personal and Claro, owned by America Movil. Argentina is set to be Virgin Mobile’s third operation in Latin America; the British company plans to launch wireless services in Chile in March, followed shortly by Colombia.
