State cellco splashes out

The wireless arm of state-owned telco Uzbektelecom, Uzmobile, will add 89 CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev A base transceiver stations (BTS) to its network by the end of 2013, reports the Times of Central Asia. The expansion, which is expected to cost USD9 million, will see the network’s capacity boosted to support an additional 130,000 numbers. Uzbektelekom also plans to spend a further USD3 million to upgrade its international packet switching centre, increasing the capacity of external internet bandwidth to 40Gbps.
