Vimpelcom abandons mobile TV project

19 Jan 2012

Russian telecoms company Vimpelcom has sold its 75% stake in regional television operator Dominanta to Albion Partners for an undisclosed amount, Kommersant reports. Vimpelcom bought its stake in the company for USD10.5 million in 2006 and invested a further USD10 million-USD15 million in the development of a mobile TV project. Although Dominanta began piloting mobile TV services using the DVB-H standard in Moscow in 2009, the firm has not begun commercial operations, reportedly due to regulatory complications.
