AEC releases market update to end-September 2011

On Monday, Macedonia’s telecoms regulator the Agency for Electronic Communications (AEC) published its 3Q11 market report, revealing that the number of active mobile subscriptions climbed by 4.13% quarter-on-quarter, and by 6.47% year-on-year, to 2,257,118. Mobile users generated voice traffic of 870.36 million minutes in the period under review, it said, up 2.84% on the previous three months and 26.8% higher than in 3Q10. Further, the AEC reported a steady 4.09% y-o-y rise in mobile broadband internet subscribers (2G and 3G), to 384,988, while the number of high speed fixed internet subscriptions – i.e. excluding mobile broadband connections – reached 271,773 (up 14.0% y-o-y).

The watchdog also reported that the total number of fixed lines in service in Macedonia rose by 0.33% on the year to 413,468 at 30 September 2011, albeit this figure was down marginally by 0.43% on the previous quarter. Finally, the AEC revealed that the number of IPTV users climbed 51.03% year-on-year to 35,409 at the end of the third quarter, the number of Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial (DVB-T) subscribers rose by 37.96% to 49,003, and the number of pay-TV customers rose by 7.64% to 241,692.
