Viettel overseas revenue more than doubled in 2011

Vietnamese military-run telecoms company Viettel Corporation generated turnover of VND117 trillion (USD5.45 billion) in 2011, an increase of 28% over the previous year, Viet Nam News cites the company’s deputy general director Nguyen Manh Hung as saying. Revenue from overseas investments more than doubled last year to reach over VND10 trillion; Viettel has operations in Laos (Unitel), Cambodia (Metfone), Mozambique (Movitel), Haiti (Natcom) and Peru. The company posted pre-tax profit of VND20 trillion in the year ended 31 December 2011, up 23% year-on-year. Viettel said it would continue to ensure the rights and interests of customers, partners and employees, as well as EVN Telecom, which was merged into the military-run firm at the start of the year, while also continuing its stable business and production operations and development. The report adds that Viettel plans to expand to an additional three or four overseas markets in 2012 to reach a further 100 million people.
