ATC snaps up more of Telefonica’s infrastructure

9 Jan 2012

Spanish-owned Telefonica Moviles Chile, which offers mobile services under the Movistar brand, has announced the sale of 558 base stations, towers and antennas to American Tower Chile (ATC) for CLP49.2 billion (USD96.2 million). Under the agreement, ATC will lease the towers back to Telefonica, although not exclusively. This follows news that ATC signed a similar agreement with Telefonica’s Mexican subsidiary Pegaso PCS in mid-December, which will see ATC take control of 2,500 towers for around USD500 million.
