OeIAG wants government to retain Telekom Austria stake

23 Dec 2011

Markus Beyrer, the head of Austria’s state holding company OeIAG, has declared that the government should retain its 28.4% stake in Telekom Austria, reports Reuters. The comments follow moves by investor Ronny Pecik to acquire 15.8% of the telco, with a view to increasing his stake further. Finance Minister Maria Fekter has compared Pecik’s actions to an unfriendly takeover attempt. ‘In my view a lot speaks for seeing the state stake in Telekom Austria as a long-term, strategic one,’ Beyrer said in a statement, noting that governments in Germany and Switzerland had remained core shareholders in Deutsche Telekom and Swisscom respectively.
