22 Dec 2011

Japan’s NEC Corp has been awarded a construction and maintenance deal contract by a consortium of telcos – including NTT Communications, Chunghwa Telecom and Korea Telecom – for the Asia Pacific Gateway (APG) submarine cable network. The consortium has awarded the Japanese firm a multi-million dollar supply contract, effective March 2012, to build the 10,400km network linking a number of East Asian countries. The APG will use 40Gbps digital coherent detection and optical add-drop multiplexing technologies to meet broadband communication demands, and will link mainland China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong.
