Apax, Providence and Xavier Niel front-runners for Orange Switzerland

France Telecom-Orange has revealed three of the five parties battling for its Swiss wireless arm, Orange Switzerland. According to Dow Jones Newswires which cited people close to the sale, Apax Partners, Providence Equity Partners and a consortium consisting of Xavier Niel, founder of French telco Iliad, Goldman Sachs Private Equity and Doughty Hanson have been cleared for the final stages of the auction. The three named parties are believed to be the front-runners but two as-yet-unnamed participants are still thought to be in the race. Potential shortlisted bidders include US-based Liberty Global Inc, which operates a cableco in Switzerland under the name Cablecom, and Egypt’s Naguib Sawiris, founder of Orascom Telecom Holding.
